Key Responsibilities

1. Scheduling & Dependency Management

  • Own and maintain integrated project and workstream schedules, ensuring consistency with programme baselines.
  • Lead the identification, documentation, and active management of dependencies across technical, commercial, and governance domains.
  • Provide clear visibility to stakeholders through regular schedule assessments, slippage analysis, and mitigation recommendations.
  • Ensure alignment between scheduling, risk, cost, and configuration management functions.

2. Benefits Management

  • Maintain and mature the programme or project benefits framework, ensuring clear traceability from outputs to intended outcomes.
  • Track progress towards benefit realisation, challenging assumptions and reporting deviations or emerging constraints.
  • Support assurance activities to validate the ongoing viability, achievability, and value for money of planned benefits.

3. Approvals, Governance & Competition Support

  • Lead day-to-day coordination of approvals activity across the programme, supporting documentation development for OBC/FBC stages.
  • Coordinate and manage ITN, tender evaluation, and other competition activities, ensuring compliance with MOD and Cabinet Office processes.
  • Prepare and quality-assure artefacts required for approvals, decision boards, and technical/commercial gates.
  • Maintain rigorous audit trails for decisions, change requests, evaluation outcomes, and approvals submissions.

4. Stakeholder & Team Coordination

  • Work proactively with delivery teams, SMEs, commercial, finance, and portfolio offices to enable coherent cross-programme delivery.
  • Produce high-quality reporting packs, dashboards, and updates for governance boards and senior leadership forums.
  • Facilitate workshops, planning sessions, and dependency or benefits reviews, ensuring clear actions and follow-through.
  • Escalate issues, risks, and blockers appropriately with recommended corrective actions.

5. Continuous Improvement & Assurance

  • Contribute to embedding best practice delivery standards across Defence Digital.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, strengthen data quality, and improve reporting accuracy.
  • Support internal and external assurance reviews (IOP, IPA, technical assurance, commercial assurance).
  • Champion structured delivery discipline within the programme and supply chain teams.

Requirements

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience in delivery or project management within Defence, government, or similarly complex environments.
  • Strong understanding of scheduling, dependency mapping, benefits management, and structured programme governance.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and drive workstreams forward.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating procurement and competition processes (e.g., ITN, tender evaluation).
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Confident engaging diverse stakeholders, facilitating discussions, and presenting information clearly.
  • Eligible for SC clearance (British national with appropriate residency).

Desirable

  • Experience delivering within Defence Digital, Land ISTAR, or major MOD capability programmes.
  • Familiarity with Agile, hybrid, and traditional delivery methodologies.
  • Knowledge of MOD approvals, governance, and change control processes (e.g., OBC/FBC, DDaT governance).
  • Experience using or administering project management tools (MS Project, JIRA, Aha!, Planisware, or similar).
  • Understanding of commercial, technical delivery, and systems engineering lifecycles in Defence contexts.
