Technical Documents Author / Service Architect

Mastek requires an experienced Technical Documents Author / Service Architect to support the documentation of existing live services currently delivered by Mastek on behalf of Army HQ. Several established services, including Defence Gateway, are transitioning from Army HQ into MOD Digital & Data ownership. To meet requirements and support Secure by Design assurance activities, these services require formal documentation using MOD templates and terminology. The successful candidate will work with Mastek Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to capture existing service designs, technical configurations and operational processes, producing documentation suitable for review by the Technical Design Office (TDO). Candidate must have relevant experience of 8 to 12 Years. This is an initial 6-month engagement, with the potential to extend to 12 months subject to demand and successful delivery.

• Produce MOD-compliant High Level Design (HLD) documents for existing services.
• Produce supporting Low Level Design (LLD) documentation.
• Develop Business Process Guides and operational documentation.
• Conduct interviews and workshops with Mastek SMEs and Customer to capture current service architectures and processes.
• Ensure documentation accurately reflects existing service delivery and support models.
• Apply Secure by Design principles within documentation where appropriate.
• Support review, assurance and governance activities, addressing comments from the Technical Design Office and other stakeholders.
• Support service transition or onboarding activities as required, ensuring documentation remains current and aligned with Defence governance expectations.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including architects, engineers and operational staff.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure documentation is accurate, consistent and aligned with MOD standards.
• Capability to work independently, manage multiple documentation workstreams and meet agreed deadlines.
• Comfortable facilitating workshops and interviews to elicit technical and process information from SMEs and customer stakeholders.
• Adaptability to work within evolving Defence Digital / MOD Digital & Data environments and changing assurance requirements.

• Demonstrable experience authoring MOD or wider UK Government technical documentation.
• Proven experience producing or contributing to HLDs, LLDs and process guides.
• Strong understanding of service architecture and technical design documentation.
• Ability to rapidly assimilate technical information from SMEs and translate it into clear, structured documentation.
• Excellent written communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience working within Defence governance and assurance frameworks.
• Understanding of Secure by Design principles and Defence assurance processes.
• Experience of Defence Digital / MOD Digital & Data environments.
• Experience supporting service transition or onboarding activities.
• Familiarity with Digital Commerce & Experience and Technical Architecture domains, with the ability to align documentation to established architectural standards.
